What awaits you during this activity : Visit to Gruyères, Switzerland - History, Cheese and Chocolate

During your trip to the French Alps, are you eager to cross borders and explore some Swiss treasures? We have crafted a magical experience for you to discover Gruyères, Switzerland, a beautiful medieval village perched on a rocky spur at the foot of the Pre-Alps, 1 hour and 45 minutes from Chamonix-Mont-Blanc*.

Set off early in the morning with your private driver and enjoy the journey while admiring Switzerland's natural landscapes. Soon, you will reach the canton of Fribourg and step into an aging cellar just a stone's throw from Gruyères. Indeed, the Swiss town inspired the name of the famous cheese, which you will enjoy tasting after learning about all the stages of its production. Its unique flavors will not leave you indifferent, and you'll want to share it with everyone around you!

You will appreciate all its subtleties during your lunch. Savor typical Swiss specialties that highlight Gruyère AOP, from the main course to dessert.

Your exploration of local gastronomy continues with a visit to the Cailler museum, one of the most renowned chocolate brands in Switzerland! Here, you will have a multi-sensory experience to learn all about the making of this Swiss delight, from cocoa beans to the final chocolate bar. Don't leave without tasting some of the house's iconic recipes.

Then it's time to head towards Gruyères, just a few minutes away. Rest assured that you will instantly fall under the spell of this small pedestrian town! Its cobblestone main street, leading up to the medieval Gruyères Castle, is as picturesque as it gets, with its shops, artisanal boutiques, fountain, and traditional restaurants… You'll immediately understand why Gruyères is listed among the most beautiful villages in Switzerland! In winter, you’ll feel like you're walking through a scene straight out of a Christmas movie with the lovely decorations and twinkling lights adorning the streets.

Visit the town alongside a fascinating guide. Trace the history of the Counts of Gruyères, imagine the fairs that took place here in the Middle Ages, relive the great battles fought in the region, and listen to the legends born here…

Returning to your accommodation with your private driver, you will cherish the wonderful memories you’ve created in Switzerland, discovering the country’s and Fribourg canton’s exceptional culture!
