1/ Aiguille du Midi, Balcony hike & Mer de Glace

  • Distance: 5,1 kilometers 
  • Duration: randonnée hike 2h30 / activity 8 hours
  • Departure / Arrival : Plan d'aiguille at Montenvers
  • Point of interest : a magnificent walk along a trail that offers a view of the Chamonix valley like no other ! 

Discover the "Capital of mountaineering"! 

Starting from Chamonix, enjoy a 20 minute ride in the cable cars up to the famous Aiguille du Midi located at 3.842m. This is as close as you can get to the top of the mystic summit without crampons. A breathtaking view of the Mont Blanc 4.807m and the French, Swiss and Italian Alps will be the backdrop. 

Don't forget your camera to immortalize this magical moment!

After enjoying the view from the summit, take the cable car back down, to Plan de l'Aiguille, the middle switching cable car station and our starting point for a two and a half hour hike to the Montenvers at 1910m. 

There, discover an impressive panorama facing the Mer de Glace, the Drus and the Grands Jorasses, stone and ice. Take the famous red rack train of a certain age for your return to Chamonix.
